I'd like to see a review of Kevin Hatton's, "New ZBs with modern day mechanics if possible please.
Players that have purchased one of these guitars, maybe could chime in, and tell us that are interested in these "New ZBs with modern day mechanics", about their new ZB guitar.
They really look nice, but would like to know more about the guitars. Like tone, playabillity, etc.

Terry,
I bought and own the first ZB retro guitar Kevin built. The maple body was custom built for me by Kevin, and Jerry Fessenden did all the undercarriage work. I am told that all the parts are the original ZB parts like the white pickup which has a toggle switch for three tonal positions. The changer, the pedals and pedal board and tuning head and fret board are also original ZB parts. The guitar looks exactly like a ZB and also sounds like those old ZB guitars. The big difference between Kevin's ZB replica and the old ZB guitars is in the easier to maintain modern mechanics which Kevin added.
The thread which Lee Baucum posted a link to above has some photos and discussion of Kevin's retro ZB guitars, and at the end of the thread I even posted an audio clip of what the guitar sounds like. Hope this is helpful but feel free to email me for any questions you may have. Kevin of course can answer any more specific questions that I may not know the answer to. These guitars are easy to play, look just like the old ZB guitars in every detail, and have a good solid projecting tone and sustain.

Lee, I've read that thread, and although it tells a lot about the guitar and how it's built, who builds them etc. I was wanting to hear from players that have bought one of Kevin's guitars. The only one I've seen so far is Mike's reivew, which really praises the looks,tone, mechanics, and playabillity of the guitar, thanks Mike. I'd really like to hear more reviews of players that have bought the new ZB.
Also, I'd like to hear that soundbite of the guitar shown in the first post. The one that Ricky Davis put in. It won't work for me.
I've always loved the tone of the ZBs, Very fair price for a lacquer SD-10 with 3 position pickup.
The looks of that guitar in the first post really caught my eye, and the 30 lbs caught both eyes  I have a Mullen D-10 and with severe degenerative disc disease, it's gettin harder to load/unload out of my truck. I feel like before long I'll have to go to an SD-10, that's why I'm interested in these guitars that Kevin Hatton, and Jerry Fesseden are building.
That's why I'd like to hear more reviews from owners of these new ZBs.

Didn't the late Basil Smith do an upgrade on ZB's back in the early 1980's? I remember seeing a few of these guitars at Scotty's in '84 or 85' I believe. They were fully rodded and used no 'delta' plates as the original models did. They stopped on the cross-shafts rather than the endplate and used the conventional nylon tuners to set the stops for the pulls. Are there any of them out there?

| Abandoning the endplate stops on a ZB might lead to a loss of the ZB tone, in my opinion. |
