I was at Guitar Center the other day looking for lap steel strings which they did not have, but I did see some interesting sets for 7 string guitar and for what is called low tuning where the kids tune down to Eb, D, C and even lower. Anyway some of the sets had string guages down to 070. I bought a seven string set with a 060 in it which at most rock oriented stores is very hard to find.

I know you can order strings from the forum, but if you have a music store close to home, you might look got some of these 7 string sets if you need large diameter strings.

Yeah, GHS do a couple of sets of "Boomers" with a 60 or 70 low string... badged as "Zakk Wylde" sets.
The top end is still pretty skinny.
The fat bottom-string is more stable & intonates better if you tune down.

Not just for kids though (I'm 40 next year!), I had my 6-string tuned to B in the band I was in during the late 80s/early 90s ( ..we used to use bass strings for the low string ) ... these days I keep a 7-string tuned to A, with the 70 bottom string.

( btw, I'm talking armpit guitars here, not steel! )
