Topic: Steel bar with finger loop needed. |

I have a friend who just had a serious medical issue and can no longer play six string and has problems holding a bar to play steel. I once saw a bar that has a finger loop above that would helpful for my friend.
Does anyone know of this bar and where to get one? A used one would be fine also.

Call Gary Preston, he is
a sheet metal fabricator and works with stainless
steel, I bet he could take a ordinary stainless
bar and weld a small piece of stainless
tubing to it.

| I remember seeing one that has a loop on top that you slip over the finger like a wedding ring (may have been a tube, but you indeed put your finger into it. I don't think he is talking about grooved dobro bars. They still require sqeezing the fingers to hold onto the bar (which I assume is the problem and thus the need for a loop to hold the bar to the finger). Unfotunately, I don't remember where I saw the bar. |

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your assistance. What I am looking for is somewhat similar to the Musisian's Friend "Jet Slide." But built on to a steel size bar.
If you visualize a ring that fits over the center of the index finger, that ring is attached to a small flat bracket that runs backward, bends down 90 degrees and then is attached to a round rod that is inserted into a hole drilled in the center of a normal looking steel bar.(from the back)
So you can still use you thumb and middle finder to hold and guide the bar, but your index finder can be used to stabilize the position of the bar as well as help lift it off the strings.
I saw one of these at a steel show. At the time I did not need to get one. I was hoping someone on the forum would remember this device and maybe know where to get one. I suspect they are now out of production.
I could not get the "control ring ba" link r to open. However, going directly to that site. I could find nothing similar.
Yes, there is a physical problem holding the bar as some of you determined.
It looks like lathe, milling machine and soldering time. Again, thank you for your help.

Marvin, here's a shot of the bar I have for sale, plexiglass "wings" attached to a standard Ernie Ball pedal steel bar 3 5/8" long. Very comfortable and solid feeling, it seems like a great solution to a loss-of-grip problem.

Thank you all for you help, I think Marks's "wing" bar will work fine and I have sent him payment. It sure is nice to have the support of the whole steel guitar community when something is needed for a fellow steel player.
