HI WIZ,

I RECENTLY SAW A COMPAQ PRESARIO SR5601P DESKTOP COMPUTER AT OFFICE DEPOT. IT LISTED FOR $359.00

Is this a good price for this computer or could I do better with another unit ????

Not too good. First only has Vista Basic which should have never been issued. You need at least Vista Home Premium.

Vista needs at least 2GB of RAM and that one only has 1GB - barely enough just to run Vista let alone other programs.

Sounds like it has low grade Integrated (on the motherboard) Video.

I know nothing about AMD Processors.

But, it is an "entry level" PC, better to put a little more into it and get a "real" PC. I've seen decent Dell Inspiron Desktops with Dual Core or even a Quad Intel Processor with 2 to 3 GB of RAM and Vista Home Premium for under $500 - watch for the advertised sales.

Here is a Dell for $399 (three day special) that is much better than the referenced Compaq (Compaq is now the low end model line for HP).

It includes Vista Home Premium.
