My buddy Dave G played there and wants to know who was picking steel at the tribute for Glen. I think it was earlier this month.

Thanks,
Dave Z

Hey GV, where you hiding out these days?! Very Happy

I know Marty did a TV show with Glen but according to Dave Gonzales who played at the tribute in Nashville there was some "grey haired cat who played REAL good." He was wondering who it might be. I don't think Marty has grey hair but I haven't seen him in 20 years! Very Happy

That was me... tell Mr. Gonzales the "grey haired cat" says thanks for the great anonymous compliment! It was a really fun night, my old pals Jim Lauderdale, Raul Malo and Chuck Mead each sang a Glen Campbell classic with the house band, as did Dave Gonzales and Jesse Dayton and a few others that I'm spacing out at the moment. Then Glen himself did several songs (which was very cool) and then a grand finale on "Southern Nights" with everyone singing with Glen...

It was a great band of guys put together from L.A., Austin and Nashville players, some of whom had never met before our very brief rehearsal the day of the show. But everybody had done their homework (some of those songs are complicated!!) and I thought it turned out great. We weren't trying to recreate the orchestral arrangements or anything and I was encouraged to stretch out a bit and add steel stuff wherever I thought it'd be appropriate, which I happily did of courseā€¦

I saw Marty Rifkin playing with Glen this past summer at a rehearsal hall in L.A. and then at the big Stagecoach festival for a few songs. He played on Glen's cool new album too and sounds fantastic...

I studied some of Glen's new material pretty carefully getting ready for this show and was really impressed. It's kind of reminiscent of his old sound without be "retro" and has a real nice cross-section of more contemporary material from some pretty unlikely places.

And an amusing album title too (almost 50 years into his career); "Meet Glen Campbell"...

And some really nice Marty Rifkin steel!

Roger,
Some "chicks" like a little grey, where there's smoke, there's fire.

Does anybody know if Glen is touring to support this new album? It's gotten a lot of good reviews and attention from some of the "hip" music magazines...
