I am playing in the key of E.
Can anyone give me a position for an F diminished near the seventh fret.
Not to be confused with the diminished seveth chord.
The progression I am trying to play is
E--Fdim--F#m--B--B7
Thanks

In this progression your "Fdim" chord functions as a dominant of F#m. You could think of it as C#7 with the root omitted.
Walter Piston would say that in the key of E, this chord is "vii of ii", and that this triad built on the leading tone (vii) is very similar, in sound and function, to the seventh chord built on V. |

If you raise your E to F you can play a fully voice diminished 7 on strings 9,8,6,5. It's the same as what Earnest showed you, but with the missing note. You can also play it on fret 6, 3, 0/12. It's just a different voicing at each fret.

8th fret is close to 7thfret so this might work.
Tab: |
E Fdim F#m
F#-------------------------------------
D#-------------------------------------
G#-------------------------------------
E ------7---8L~~-9~~~------------------
B ------7A--8~8a-9~9a------------------
G#------7B--8B~~-9B~~------------------
F#-------------------------------------
E -------------------------------------
D -------------------------------------
B -------------------------------------
* NOTE the "8a" and "9a" is a halfpressed A pedal

I have not shown position for the B and B7 chord as there is lots of options where to play it. You could even keep the last voicing at 9th fret and just play the 7th string while the strings still sound and it would work as a B9th voicing

What Ernest said, except I'd think of it as a C#7b9 but still as the dominant seventh of the 2 minor chord.. |

E .....3rd fret w/ A&F
F Dim 4th fret w/ F
F# min 5th fret w/ A
I like this voicing on strings 4.5.6 or whatever fits

Just sit in front of and facing the guitar, and kid on you're playing an augmented.

F° / Fret 6 : strings 5 6 8 9 lever F (raises 4 & 8 a half tone)
a simple way to get a diminished is by raising the root of a dominant7th chord 1 half step
E to F
also, you can raise any tone of a dom7th chord 1 half step & get a diminished
Tonic/Root( 1 ) - 3rd or 5th up 1 half step
