Can I use a .058 on bottom without damaging the instrument?

Some of the bakelites I've worked on had a slight bow in the neck. Likely from years in a closet with the strings at pitch. As far as a .058 string is concerned, I wouldn't do it on my bakelites, but you can check for any bow in the neck when you set the pitch, and judge from that.
