I just bought an Ampeg v-4 head and two 4x12 cabs. It sounds enormous, but way more than I need for almost any gig. (I'm using this in a rock band.) I want to use a 2x12. I have an old Peavey Deuce cab with the original (I think) speakers in it. I hooked it up, and it seemed like exactly what I need. So here are my questions:
1. The v-4 has a impedance matching switch. Should I set it at 4 or 8 ohms? There doesn't seem to be any markings on the speakers.
2. The speakers in this cabinet were originally wired in series. Would there be an advantage to re-wiring them in parallel?
3. I think the Deuce and the v-4 are both 100 watt heads, so I'm assuming these speakers should be able to handle the v-4's power; but I know the v-4 is really loud. Should I worry?
4. I could change out the Peavey speakers for a couple from one of the ampeg cabs, but I'm more worried about blowing one of those. (Since there's four of them in each cabinet, I'm assuming they have a lower handling capacity than the two Peaveys.) Should I try changing them out?

While I'm asking, is there any way to test the wattage of a speaker without blowing it? (That I could do at home?)

I've always used combo amps, so this stuff has never come up before for me.

I just found on the manual on Peavey's site that the speakers are 4 ohms, so that question is answered.
