A friend of mine purchased a New Carter. On His older guitar,(sho-bud) he used thicker gauge strings. Now he wants to replace them. What do you Carter players use ?
thanks
Rick

I use whatever comes out of the package !

The only strings that I look for regarding gauges are the 3rd and 5th for consistency. .11 and .17.

I didn't even know there were other gauges Sad

just kidding, well almost..

the Cobra sets I have ( E9th) are
13, 15, 11, 14, 17, 20, 26, 30, 34, 36

I'm assuming it's a pro model and then Tony allready answered
However, it's important to know that on a Carter starter you MUST use a wound 6'th, otherwise it won't tune.

yes it's a pro model.
SD10 3x5
he was concerned about the pedal stops, not pulling far enough to get the right note, if strings were thicker.
I used cobra coil on my lap steels. I liked them.
thanks

I use a plain .022 on the low G# string since that was what their website said when I bought the new s-10 and what it came with. It's been real good except hard to find in a set so I by em separately. Everything else is like Tony's except I recently switched to an .0115 on the high G# and like it. Stainless Jagwires haven't broke yet!

I used to use the Ricky Davis signature set on my Carter before I sold it and they sounded wonderful. I substituted a plain for the wound 6th that comes with the set.

If you really want to be picky, I'm sure Carters use a standard set for their guitars from the factory - give them a call and ask!

If you bought the guitar new from Carter, you should have an owners manual. In mine, they have a page that lists what the tunings are and the string gauges they put on the guitar.

I use mostly "SIT Buddy Emmons E9" stainless on all my guitars.
I've also used Jagwire "Russ Hicks" and GHS "super steels"
I liked them all.

One thing to watch out for is if you go from wound to plain 6'th or vice versa it will most likely require a re-rodding due to the quite big difference in stroke.
