I put on a new set of strings on my emmons le grande
a couple of weeks ago and had trouble tuning the 5th
string right away. I could never get the tuner on the
end plate to be right. Not ever having worked on my
steel before I thought I would try to fix it myself.
Well, that was a mistake. I moved the pedal stop on
the crossbar and thought that would help. I went back
up on top and tried it again, no luck. After I looked
at the string more closely I found it was the wrong
guage, and replaced it. I moved the pedal stop back
to where I thought it should be. Now here is the real
problem. I have no slack on the 5th string tuning nut
at all. It is right up against, I think it is called
the changer. Just touching the A pedal with my finger
will raise the pitch. Will someone please help me get
the slack back on the 5th string so I can get it tuned.
thank you

remove the string. Start with a new .017
back the tuning nut out perhaps half way for PED A 5th string.
back the tuning nut out perhaps half way for the C Pedal , 5th string
Start over. Tune the A pedal first.
always go back to ground zero first.
good luck

Jim, evidentley when you moved the pedal stop back to where you thought it was to start with ...you moved it too far so there is no play in the travel...I'm saying this based on the fact that the Emmons Le Grande is an all pull changer. |
