I just wanted to say that I believe Tyler "The Kid" Hall is going to be one of the steel greats. He just turned 21 and it has been fun watching him over the past three years mature into not only a super steel player but as a wonderful young man.
Before he moved to Branson, almost every night I'd get a call and at the end of the line I'd hear some new steel lick being played...no hello this Tyler...just Tyler playing over the phone! (Many of us Alabama players know what I'm talking about HA HA.)
A couple weekends ago, Tyler called and said he and the great Terry Bethel were coming back to Alabama for a few days to kick back and wanted to jam. What a terrific fun afternoon I had picking with the great Terry Bethel (a terrific person and player). Then to watch "The Kid" play a wide variety of music was a delight. His tone and execution is just excellent.
Later that night, Terry and I went with "The Kid" as he sat in with area band. It was one kicking band that played a good variety of music. He amazed me with his creativity. I beleive that is a key for Tyler... he can play a wide range of musical styles -- he is truly a super young musician. By the way, Tyler is a very good keyboardist, bassist and plays a mean 'tele'.
Bottom line...there are a number of talented young players such as Tyler and Austin Stewart who are taking the steel guitar to a new level. Great days are still ahead for the steel guitar with these fine young men. Proud of you Tyler! By the way, I need to give you a new name now...Tyler "The Man" Hall. |

I met the "Kid" and seen him play a couple years ago. I can just imagine how far he has come. I moved up to Alabama 3 months ago so I could try and get some of the "Mojo" that ya'll got going on here. I think it's working!

Tyler is still "THE KID" until he reaches 30. By then he will have realized the huge mistake he made by selling the LLG III that I gave him.

I echo what Bill said about Tyler. He has improved so much in the last 2 years. He was at The Ozarks Steel guitar Association open jam session we had this month and he played GREAT!!! You also have to give Terry Bethel some credit as he has been Tyler's mentor. Tyler" THE KID" Hall will be playing at The St Louis Convention this week end.
If you want to come to the bi-monthly open jams we have in Branson, Tyler and Austin Stewart are at the jams most, not all, of the time. Check our web site for directions. www.ozarksteelguitar.com

Saw Tyler in Branson recently and he has truly become the "Man" not the kid any longer. Its people like Tyler that keep people like Terry and all the "more mature greats", hesitate to say old!
I watched Terry as he watched Tyler play and could see the "pride " in him of helping someone grow and carry on bigger and better things for this great and beautiful sounding instrument we all love so well.
All of the Branson folks have much to do with Tylers
growth. Thanks Hank , Mike and all.

You guys are just too much! I wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for people like you guys helping me out. I really appreciate all the kind words. Bill S., I really enjoyed playing with you and Bethel. You really play your butt off! Now Doug, about this whole "laid back" thing... I don't really know what your talking about. I slave over a hot steel guitar for nearly 2 hours a day!
I really do appreciate it guys. The checks are in the mail...
BTW... I just know Mr. Del will love that picture! _________________ www.joshturner.com

I like to be fairly reserved in complimenting fellow musicians, and often I just don't want to bother them. But I had to stop Tyler in the buffet line Saturday to tell him how impressed I was with his playing.
Tyler, you've got a lot of heart in your playing, which made you stand out to me. This has been the key to success for players like John Hughey and Jimmy day. Speed and hot licks mean nothing without heart and soul. You certainly are destined for success in the world of steel guitar. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

Chris,
I certainly appreciate it. It was a pleasure to meet you. I've always been a huge John Hughey and Dickey Overby fan, and man those guys have got more soul than in their little finger than I'll ever hope to have.
Ms. Donna,
I had a ball playing with Austin all weekend. He's playing better everytime I hear him. He's just about stole all of my licks, so I might as well just quit. It was good to see ya'll again.
Now, I don't want to hear any buffet jokes... _________________ www.joshturner.com
