I just acquired a Peavey PRO-FEXII
(s/n 00- 06205724) and the PRO-FEXII MIDI conroller (footswitches)(s/n 00-06181369)
I need the MIDI cable from footswitches to rack unit; the power adapters-output 16.5vac / 1 amp; RAM card; and most of all an instruction manual.
Where is best place to obtain these?
Thanx,
Jim |

Hi Jim,
I know the cable is available through Peavey or a Peavey dealer. The part number is 70650202 and it runs around $40.00. This is the 8 pin MIDI cable that powers the foot switch unit. The 16.5 power supplies are also available from Peavey through a Peavey dealer.
The RAM cards are another story. Peavey does not make them anymore but there are several cards that will work. If someone on the forum does not chime in, I will post later with part numbers. I am not in a location where I have that information. You could also try an ebay search and see what you find, just be careful because there are some ROM cards (not RAM) out there that contain presets, however the ROM cards will not work for storage.
The Profex II manual is available on line at peavey.com . The manual for the footswitch may be as well. Go to http://peavey.com/support/searchmanuals/ and hit the button that says "search archived manuals"
Good luck

For starters, you can download the manual free from Peavey's website, if their server is running this week. The cable can be ordered from Peavey for around $40.00. Drop them an email and they will take care of it for you. If they no longer have the power supplies for the two units, you'll have to find them elsewhere. They are 16 volt, rated for 1 amp. They may no longer sell the cache cards, but they can be purchased online. The Roland M-512G RAM cartridge will also work in the Profex II
Hope this helps,
Cheers!

Jim, I have a ram card to sell, I sent an email. I think you can get the power supply from Peavey. I know that you can download the Manual from the Peavey web site. You can use the Profex II without the midi controller, I have never owned one. So that cable should probably be the last item on your wanted list. Good luck.

Hi again,
Benton, thanks for signing in with the part number for the Roland card. It looks like Jim has things under control at this point, however I thought I would let everyone know that Voice Crystal has RAM cards available for several discontinued brands including Peavey. For future reverence the website is www.voicecrystal.com - then follow the links to blank RAM cards. _________________ Ellis Miller

UPDATE to my Pro-Fex II:
Found the midi cable and one of 16vdc power supplies.
New problem: The Pro-Fex unit has a very corroded, board mounted battery which has messed up the surrounding components. I can probably clean up the mess some BUT, I need help with replacing or eliminating the battery. I sent Ken Fox an e-mail but no reply yet. Anyone else had and fixed this problem?
(sorry, I tried, but picture would not load)
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Jim |

Depending on how bad the PC board is, you may be able to fix it yourself, otherwise it will need to be sent to Ken Fox so he can repair it (if it can be repaired), put the "batteryless" mod in it and also the tone mod (replace the analog Op amps).
Ken's probably in St Louis for the ISGC right now. If that's the case, he'll be back next week.
There is also a listing of all the Jeff Newman Profex II programs on my web site. You can download and save the listing but I don't have a loadable version. www.gulfcoaststeelguitar.com |

The big engineering flaw in the Peavey xxxFex units was battery deterioration and subsequent leakage damaging the circut board. The batteryless mod is well advised. The critical issue is what specifically was damaged and how much. Usually, there is a little clean up and perhaps a parts replacement or two and you are good to go.
I have several xxxFex units in their various evolutions. When I need help, I always start with Ken Fox. He is very knowledgable and anyone who has done business with him will vouch for his honesty and credibility.
I have also had very good experiences with the repair department at Peavey.
Good luck. _________________ Ellis Miller

Maybe Ken Fox will answer my earlier e-mail in a few days. If not, then I will call Peavey and get an estimate. They were very reasonable and fast when they fixed my Session 500 last year.
Thanx,

The only issue with sending it to Peavey is they do not do the "batteryless" mod, they will put another battery in it. Best to hold off and let Ken Fox take care of it and it will be "permanently" fixed. |

Tried to answer. No luck. I am home and can likely fix it. I see a lot like this.
Will be out tomorrow, back later in the evening |

Thanks, Ken. My wife and I both check e-mail regularly.
I can easily send picture of the battery damage with e-mail.
Thanx,

I check email every few hours and I have been home over week. One email from a Forum member (might have been yours required some sort of receiver verification, which would not work at all.
Note any unit sent to Peavey for repair with battery leakage does not carry a work guarantee. They also do not install the battery-less mod, just a new battery.
Most units I get now require circuit board removal, parts pulled, board cleaned, traces repaired, new parts installed, reload and testing . Still i can;t guarantee that another problem will not show up at a later date. So far I have done many and not an issue. There is always a first one, though.
Typically that is an hour shop labor at 50.00 per hour and beyond the battery-less mod or optional Burr Brown chips install. |

Thanks Ken for the update. It wasn't my e-mail you saw because we do not require auto reply, etc.
I do not intend to personally use this Pro-FexII, it is part of an musician's estate which I am helping sell. Except for the battery leakage issue, the unit is like new, was never used and has been sitting in a closet for up several years.
Am hoping to get it working before selling, but may do a 'sell as is'.
Thanx,
Jim |
