Is the Twin Twelve the piggyback amp that fits in the back of the speaker cabinet?

If so, I know someone that has (had?) two of them.

That's the one I was thinking of. I picked up one in a garage sale many years ago. I sold it to a buddy that (I think) still has it and another one just like it.

Bruce.. If you can't score one here, there are always MANY on ebay... They are going up in price like anything old with tubes.. They will make a great lap steel or blues guitar amp, but are probably among the worst amps ever made if you intend to play pedal steel through it.. They are dirty sounding even when well adjusted and played at lower volumes... GREAT sounding amps for a bluesy tone however... bob

If my memory serves me correctly, these amps as well as lower end Silvertone guitars were manufactured by Danelectro for Sears Roebuck(the more expensive Silvertone guitars were made by Harmony back when it was still an American company.) A Danelectro from this era should be basically the same unit which may broaden your options.

The first "PA" we ever had was a Silvertone piggyback with 6 10's.We took a Skil saw and sawed the speaker box in half, stuck on a new side and we had a "real" PA!Speakers on both sides of the stage.Used them old Astatic hi -z mics.Got a Shure mic for Christmas.Boy was I something!!!!!!! Very Happy

FWIW:

In our crashing fourth reich economy, I've noticed that Danelectro Silvertone amps are running about 20-30% less than a year or-so ago, particularly the ones 1x12 or smaller. I've also noticed an increase in the number of ebay auctions that don't get a single bid at quite decent prices and are relisted several times, and thus an increase in B.I.N. listings with much more reasonable prices than a year ago. Personally I think the economy will continue to get much worse and sales prices will go down in the competition of a continuingly poor market; But if you want something now, it seems worth the effort to watch the SGF B/S board and ebay closely.
