And now something completly different:

This TUESDAY, APRIL 25 at 8:00 pm, New Music on North Sixth presents:

ENDANGERED OPERA
Excerpts from operas that may never get produced!

WHO: Music by LISA KARRER, DAVID SIMONS and DENMAN MARONEY

WHERE: Galapagos Art and Performance Space - Stephanie Griffin, curator
70 North 6 Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn

~ Simons will present the premiere of "THE VENUS FACTOR" for a 7 piece
ensemble.
The libretto is drawn from the controversial book "Worlds in Collision" by
Velikovsky, whose catastrophe theories were ridiculed by the scientific
establishment in the 1950's, and now seem vindicated.

~ Maroney presents "LAMENTATIONS OF AN OLD PENSIONER", a work from his
song cycle
based on the poetry of W.B. Yeats, arranged for a 7 piece ensemble.

~ Other music to include "PRESTIDIGITATION" in which Simons controls a
sampler from
his Theremin; the enchanted car wreck "MOON RIVER"; and "THE GOD OF MUD"
from the
Simons/Karrer opera "THE BIRTH OF GEORGE". The score for "THE BIRTH OF
GEORGE"

WITH: Mark Stephen Brooks (bass), Michael Evans (theremin & percussion),
Kathleen Fischer (voice), Darryl Gregory (trombone), Stephanie Griffin
(viola), Bob Hoffnar (pedal steel guitar), Lisa Karrer (voice), Denman
Maroney (keyboards & voice), Dafna Naphtali (voice), Dina Paisner
(actress), David Simons (theremin & percussion), Hans Tammen (guitar) and
Kate Yourke (artist).

GALAPAGOS INFO: Take the L train to Bedford, walk one block to North 6th
(718) 782-5188.

Some of this stuff gets WAY out there !

cya, Bob

Actually the main guy Dave Simons worked his way through school at Cal Arts in the 70's playing in a western swing band !
