Top O'the Line pedal steel guitars are seemingly available everywhere and some really top rated second hand or pre-owned g'tars are also available.
JUST CURIOUS. WHY do so many of you seek out for purchase, a make or model that most of us have NEVER BEFORE HEARD OF?
Is it the challenge of being first on the block?
Are you trying to avoid the higher price of a proven instrument that has been popularized by a well-known artist?
Whatever your reason, I'm confident it is more than justified. In my own selfish way, I of course selected the Gibson, Fender triple-8, Bigsby and Emmons........ Still have them and have never regretted the purchase.
Some folks seem to go thro g'tars like others go thro' cowboy hats. |

Ray, They're trying to find one that will play itself, stay in tune, and not break strings, and sound like Buddy, Paul, Hal, Curley, etc. Oh yeah, I forgot, Cheap too |

I had a cowboy hat once, but prefer baseball caps, even tho you can't hold much water in 'em for your horse. Then went to flat caps, but only for special occassions.
Hope this helps. |

What would be the fun in a cheap guitar that played it self and sounded so good? LOL
Lucky for me I found the rig that had the tone and action that I wanted within my first few years of playing. The "Tone Hunt" is over and I no longer have G.A.S.

Well Ray,
I have one cowboy hat - a Stetson 5x Beaver that I have had for probably 25 years. Its the only cowboy hat I've ever had and probably ever will have.
Steels on the other hand, I've been through four in the past five or six years and I have a new Mullen on order now. I get the new licks out of them and then send them on their way.
Actually I intend to be satisfied with the Mullen RP.

Nowadays "most of us" have internet access, so the answer must be that "most of us" aren't interested. |

Some people just like to be "different". Some are looking to find the "latest and greatest", and some are just close to a deal that could be good...or bad.
Lotsa good guitars out there now, and a few "average" ones. IMHO, most all of 'em (probably 98%) are capable of playing more than their owners, or prospective owners, ever will.
The weakest link is usually between the steel and the seat! |

Brian,
At one time nobody had heard of any of them......ever so often a NEW name would show up....names that are now rated as the benchmarks.
It would be nice to have a brand X........then we could say mine works better and sounds better than brand X........and it is'nt even BLACK. |
