Hey all...I was emailing back & forth with another lap player the other day, & we were talking shop about our current rigs for lap.
I am using a National Dynamic, or my Harmos through a tube screamer, a univibe, an echo pedal into a Princeton Reverb('77) or a Mesa Boogie DC-3.
What do some of you use???
Thanks....Terry V.

Stringmaster D8 for gigs through Zoom PD-01 (don't laugh, poor man's Klon) with gain to zero for boost, Zendrive, Line 6 DL4 delay. Amp is a Deluxe Reverb but usually left at home. Other steels are left home are Asher and Rick bakelite.

I wish I just had one rig that would do it all, but I use different amps depending on the size of the gig. I play a Silvertone (Valco) lapsteel, Shobud LDG & Semi hollow body Tele custom. Through:

1. Roland Microcube and Vox DA5 (Battery amps) for Hospice visits and nursing homes. (I can go from room to room, and play in their lunch and activity rooms.

2. Fender FM25R (10"speaker) or Fender65FX (12"speaker) for small to medium rooms and at church.

3. Fender HotRod Deluxe 40watt Tube amp(12" speaker)
for large halls, weddings etc.

4. HotRod Deluxe and Peavey ED100 Amp (15" & horn) and or two Kustom 200 heads through 15"JBL & 12" Electrovoice in Leslie Cabinet. I have to use an A/B switch or mixer to route each guitar to each amp combination in stereo for big outdoor park concerts etc.

I am considering simplifing my setup to just one or two rigs. I just love the amazing sound of the Leslie, but it just doesn't make sense for the smaller gigs...

For my steels; If I am turning it on and off all day long practicing at home I use a Peavey 112.

For my steels, Weissenborn and Fender guitars; For serious full clean retro tone I use a Tweed 5E3 which has a 12" Celestion Blue.

And that's that. keep it simple, two amps.

Almost exclusively, I use one of my Ric Bakelite prewar models, 6-string with C6th/A7th, played thro' my Volu-Tone amp....dry, no reverb.

Sounds really nice and vintage to me....

Right now- '54 ric S-100 into a 59/60 ric m16 supersonic(think tweed bassman, but cathode biased). I use an AC booster for a bump in gain when I need/want it. Looking forward to re-acquiring a d8 soon... I love the S100 but its a bit limiting at times.

My other amp is a homemade/self designed 1x12, 2 6l6's running in true class A for about 15 watts. It has a nice solid low end due to the sold state recto and big output transformer. Louder then you would think.

P.S. Terry! If I ever come through Randleman you keep an eye on that Princeton!lol

My go to instruments are one of three Industrial Guitars lap steels, two Indy Rails and one Baritone, through a POD X3. I'll add other effects pedals occasionally, either vintage analog pedals or more current models, several of which are modified by Analogman or Keeley. I use a Boss RC-50 Loop Station extensively. In Pro Tools I'll apply a variety of RTAS and VST effects, as well.

And, from time to time, I'll run through a vintage Fender Vibro-Champ, most often miked with an SM-57. I'll also pull out my Fender Champs or my 50s Magnatone Amerloha.

National D-8 console or National Dynamic 6 into a Line6 AX2; Roland JC-120 model for country steel parts and Dumble Overdrive Special model for beefier David Lindley style parts.

My favorite set-up for steel only:
National D-8 Console - thru Fender VibroChamp plugged into Silvertone 2x12 cab.

When I'm pulling double duty on lead guitar and steel, I'm running both thru a blues jr and various effects.

When I play any of my steels, I use either one or two Peavey N–112's with a little Reverb and just a slight-Delay! These Amps. seem to function well with any type of steel, if you adjust the EQ properly! If I had known at the time that I wouldn't be carting my equipment out of the house any more, I would have just as well kept my ’65 Re-Issue Fender Twin~Reverb Custom™ 15.

Well, it all depends on the gig for me. For a smaller set up, and for a more vintage Hawaiian tone, I use my custom frypan (faux-pan) through either my Vox Pathfinder (great sounding little amp, and has a line-out, for ease of running a signal to the board), or the juicier tonal choice, a Fender Pro Jr. with a MoJo Tone replacement speaker, and a mic in front of it. If I need to have extra-crunchy tones, I put a Fulltone II pedal in the signal path.

When I'm going to do more of a Western Swing thing, I use my reissue Deluxe Reverb with either my D8 or T8 Stringmasters, depending on stage room, and if I feel like schlepping the much heavier T8! Lately, it's been the D8 more often... Embarassed

I play a CruzTone S-8 on 3 legs,a 65 D-8 Stringmaster,a 56 T-8 Stringmaster and a 51 Ricky 8-string Silver Hawaiian G-Deluxe lap thru either a Peavey Nash 400,a Session 400,a Fender Steel King,or a Fender Blues DeVille(souped up with 6550s and a secondary transformer to heat those big old tubes). For smaller gigs I'll use either a stock Fender Champion 30(30 watt SS thru the stock 10" spkr)which sounds pretty "blackface" or a 1980 Yamaha G100-112 (100 watt SS thru 1-12" w/parametric EQ). For the Peaveys and the Champion 30 I'll use an Alesis Nanoverb but for all the rest I just use the internal spring reverb and no other effects. I think my favorite guitar/amp rig lately is the CruzTone thru the Yamaha. The CruzTone is like a long scale Ricky on steroids and packs up into a Steinberger bass gigbag and for tone, power, size and weight, the Yamaha packs a punch and is about the size of a Princton.Even with pedal steel it will kickass on a Peavey 112 as long as you put a more stout speaker in there.I have a Brazilian-made 12" Selenium in mine which is a cross between old EV SRO and a Black Widow.

Hey Charley...I'll keep an eye on the Princeton...LOL. It has been reworked to blackface specs, & has a stronger speaker & is a real screamer, clean or dirty.
I have noticed that a lot of you have at least one rig for small/medium gigs, and a different rig for large/outdoor jobs...I do this also, but sometimes for large stages or outdoors, I use one amp for guitar, and another for lap instead of one amp & the A/B box. For this I use the Mesa Boogie for guitar, & a Peavey Classic 50/212s for lap...Terry V.
