I found a well used Flinthill at a local store the other day. The high string buzzed. Anyone know what could cause that? It was a squareneck. Also: How can you tell if it has the Beard set up and resonator upgrade? There were no markings on the guitar (aside from TEX spelled out on the neck in sparkly decals). Thanks in advance.

The first thing to do is replace the old string.

If you hear a high pitch, whiney kind of sound, this may be the problem: Improperly cut nut slot. The nut should have a slot cut so that the highest point is nearest the fretboard. When there is no rise, the slot is flat, and that's when you get that sound when you play an open string. If you still hear it with the bar on the strings, it could also be happening at the saddle. It may be in the resonator, though (which would be more of a buzz than a whine).

Unless the owner went to the Beard shop in Maryland, it's unlikely that a Flinthill resonator guitar would have had the work done. I think you're confusing the Flinthill brand with the Gold Tone brand.
