Last known where abouts.....around Odessa, TX. Bob played steel with a group that often opened for George Strait.
If you know and can get word to him.......Eric Giles and I are trying to find him. |

Roual, he had been playing with Jody Nix out of here, Big Spring, Texas. His son Kenneth was playing drums but moved to Lufkin i think. Bob had some health problems but i understand he overcame most of them. He was replaced by Johnny Cox about a year or so ago, mutually, and I don't know where he got off to, but I'll call Jody tomorrow and find out. Bob Kelly is one of the most underrated steelers in this state, i say again.

Thanks Fred,
I only got to pick with Bob one time. Eric was his normal guitar man. You are correct......he was very under-rated plus a nice guy. I will get this post off to Eric right now. |

Bob Kelly has played great steel here in TX for a long time. He's on a couple Clay Blaker CDs, and also a killer Johnny Bush CD, "Time Changes Everything."
He's also a successful songwriter, having a George Strait hit "Last Time, the First Time." _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

When Bob was still around Athens, TX, Eric Giles picked with him often. For some reason, Eric didn't get to pick with him for awhile then did a New Years Eve with him. Eric said he was thinking was he as great as I thought and then that eve he decided ........yep.....he is that great. |

I was going to send you his email but,,alas,,I've missplaced it. If I find it I will send it. Bob was "roped" into being VP of our little PSG club here when I was President of it. He and Francis were very dear friends of ours,,,he played for Clay Blaker at the time,,,(in fact he provided the bus for Clay). Did Clay go back to Hawaii to live??
I've talked to Bob several times since he started for Jody Nix,,,but it's been a year or so since I've heard from him. |

I have Bob's phone number in Odessa, TX and will give it to Eric. Tell him to call me at 432-263-2213 and I'll give it to him. I'm pretty sure Bobby still lives in Odessa, but his son Kenneth moved to Lufkin I think. In any case tell Eric to get in touch with me.
