I've recently become interested in a Williams Guitar, (ala Larry Scott's Willy Wood) but I've never seen one in person. I'm kickin around the idea of ordering a new one. I'm curious to hear what you folks think about them. Apparently, there's no extra charge for a laquer finish. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

I bought an very good used one I love it. Its an Keyless. Never had an keyless but got use to it. It has BL 710 on both necks. I had an problem with the E9th changer called Bill and sent it back and Bill did an great job I'm still playing it and the sound is an killer with an session 500 or an Nashville 400. The tone is an killer.

Great guitar,I have an S10 keyless, easy to change strings, Usually changed the string & tune it up before the singer finishes his song.. Great tone when somebody else plays it, mine is something to be desired, no matter which guitar I play.. But I love my Wee Willie... no pun intended

They are really nice guitars and Bill is excellent to deal with. My first modern design steel was a Williams keyless that I wish I still had. I bought a new keyed 400 series in '99 and I still have it. It still plays and looks like new. Just happened to have a picture.

I had never seen a Williams to look at one up close or play one when I ordered mine. I looked at the pictures on the internet, asked for owner comments, and didn't hear any negative comments. So... I called up Bill Rudolph and had a chat.
Bill is a real gentleman. He answered all my questions and just talking with him I felt I could trust him to build me a quality guitar. I was not wrong.
The craftsmanship and attention to detail is spectacular on the Williams product. They are very well built mechanically as well. Parts under the hood are first rate, neatly installed so that everything works well, and made of quality materials that will last a lifetime.
Give Bill a call. Perhaps he knows of a Williams owner in your area where you could go to see a Willy up close and personal.
I sure enjoy mine, and play it almost every day.
It is always set up in my shop in Walton, NY. If anybody wants to see it and play it, stop in.
Williams guitars are just beautiful, and worth every penny!

Hey Rick, My Steel is exactly like Larry's except I have 3 floor pedals and seven knee levers..IMHO you cannot buy a better Steel...Williams 600 series has my vote. Too bad we do not have a place somewhere, where we could spend a couple of days with all the steels on the market...that would be a terrific way of making up our minds.

Rick,
They certainly make a most beautiful instrument. Lots of satisfied owners. Would suggest if at all possible, sit down and play one before making a decision. Smile

Hey Rick! Short and sweet...my Williams(600) incorporates all of the best qualities I've ever appreciated in any of the guitars I've ever owned...all wrapped up in one exceptional package. Never ever played one and only saw one in person when we played a show at Nick Nixon's with the house band featuring Wally Murphy. So..if you happen to take the "plunge" like I did you will not be sorry. A great and reasonably-priced work-of-art in my book. Respectfully submitted, RK Cool

Rick, I wouldn't hesitate go ahead and order one. I've had my 12 stringer since April '06 and just love it. Like everybody says, Bill is a top notch guy.

Hey Darvin, there is something about that color combination that grabs me...after looking at it for a minute or so I figured out what it was...I was always a sucker for a blond in Blue Jeans...you have a great looking Willie.

Hey Rick! The dark color is charcoal....the center color is the tint that Bill lists as "bordeaux"...kind of a wine red with a subtle purple-ish tint. The image posted is pretty faithful to the actual finish. Regards, RK

I ordered a Williams sight unseen, and was satisfied in every way with it. I'd still have it if I could justify more than one pedal steel. I'd buy another in a minute.

heres is mine from wich larry stole ideas from Evil Twisted Laughing

rick just place the order to bill and then you have few months of time to think up everything that you could possibly think of on it, and in the time if you have some changes that you would like to have just let bill know and itl be done. I remember when i ordered mine i was going for birds eye maple but then i decided to take curly maple, and i wrote him and asked if its possible, and it came a quick reply back wich sais "we will do it"

so just go for the Williams. i bet you wont regret it and its quality service and quality guitar. Ive tried playing zums and mullens and emmons. But i do like Williams the best. And as usuall the zumsteels are favorized to day and ill tell you that zumsteel and Williams are on the same top level both,... or williams is one step better Laughing Laughing

Jani, it's funny you mention switching from birdseye to curly maple...that's one of my most difficult decisions. They're all gorgeous. I'm having a hard time here. I'm not even sure which knee levers to go with, flagged or the new contoured style, or what position to put the Franklin pedal. It goes on and on. Are those clogs made of wood, or is that a whole 'nother country (just kidding) Confused
