(Preface: I am not a Sho-Bud expert and never will be! Just helping a neighbor friend here...)

My neighbor has a heavily modified "mystery" Sho-Bud that he's looking to sell. He's not 100% sure what he has (and even after looking at it, neither am I!!)... I told him I'd be glad to help as far as gathering some info and maybe even finding an interested buyer here on the Forum.

Here's what I know about it:
- Originally a D10, but back neck removed and purple-ish pad put in
- Rounded top on front apron
- Gumby keyhead
- White fretboard
- Wide pedals
- George L's pickup (w/ wear)
- 3 & 2 (both levers are after-market --RKL looks to lower Es, LKL is there, but is not connected to anything)
- Rack & barrel assembly underneath
- Serial number stamped on frame is 7(sideways) then 7658 ..??.. But frame is painted/textured black, which I've never seen on a 'Bud...Frame might not be original??

At any rate, it needs adjustment and possibly some parts. The owner is an excellent guitar player who thought he'd try steel and just never got the time to get going. I believe he picked this up on eBay 3-4 yrs. back.

Any info/thoughts welcome.

Like Michael says, it started life between 1967 and 1970 as a Sho-Bud Crossover. It was also referred to as a Baldwin Crossover. It would have had 2 necks, 6 pedals, and probably only one original knee lever. The black painted frame is original - the purple pad thing is not. I have a fully restored example of this model.
Cheers!

Actually it's an optical illusion. I'm really sitting on a drum throne, which is what I use most of the time. The chair is an iron garden swinging bench which is behind me. I don't usually play in the garden, but there's no space in my den to take a photo. You'll also notice I'm not plugged in... Embarassed

Hey Alan, I saw the double back on the chair but I knew you couldn't fill it up, or you could never get under the Bud..Looks like a good place for a garden party !!Ron
