Mr. Seymour, I just finished reading over your info' filled newsletter and some questions have come forth:

1.- In those BIG BANDS, to which you refer, did someone OTHER THAN THE TRUMPET PLAYER actually write out the trumpet players' wild, free spirited SOLO, or was he given free rein to DO HIS THANG? ALways wondered about that?

2.- WHAT did you do in the USAF? You've never shared that with me, or anyone else that I know of?
No one wonder you have this love affair with P-51's.....and the like.

3.- When concert pianists can play an hour or more from memory, violinists too, etc., etc., why do so many steel guitar players feel that learning three choruses of Steel Guitar Hip-Hop........all three of which are played note for note like the others, that they've accomplished some really big feat?

We look to you Master for the answers to the unknonwn.

Ray, I believe you're thinking of the average steel player, and comparing him to a concert pianist. That's sorta like comparing a Toyota to a Ferrari.

A true, working concert pianist practices 6 to 8 hours a day. That may have something to do with the amount of music they can remember...
I am always amazed when I see a concert of that nature. A few years ago I saw Sharon Isben, a world renowned classical guitar player in concert. She did a concert of over an hour in length of very serious, complicated classical music, all from memory.

In January of 2007 I attended a concert performance by the pianist Mr. Abbey Simon.

He played the most complex, most interesting, most diverse piano performance I have ever seen. Two hours and not a sheet of music.

I've never heard of Steel Guitar Hip-Hop. I don't think I want to, either. Neutral
