Need help with a ernie ball vol. pedal. it has just started to make a humming noise. i went direct to amp and humming stopped. so in seems to be in the vp. now what can i do to fix?? amp vol direct was 2 to 3 and with pedal 5 to 6 for the same level. can they be cleaned? repaired?? any ideals are apprecaited . terry

Terry,
It sounds like you have a bad solder connection, or the potentiometer needs to be replaced. I would open it up and look for a loose wire and make sure that the insulation isn't rubbed off on one of the wires and shorting to the metal housing. It is also possible that one of the jacks is bad.
They can definitely be repaired. If you have to replace the pot, be sure to use a 500K.

Sometimes the jacks can get corroded where they go through the pedal. Loosen the nuts that hold the jacks and re-tighten them.
