I've been using a POD XT for about 8 months now.
I really can not compare it to anything else but I hear alot about digitek (digitech)
and is a fraction of cost of a POD.
I wish I heard of Digitek before buying the POD.

I can tell you that the POD XT does have limitations.
It doesn't have an emulation for Peavey amps.
I've had to jack with the EQ alot to get distortion close to what I want (still not 100%).
I love the distortion in my session 500 and the POD can not get close to it.
You'll find for steel you will need to crank up the bass almost all the way and have the treb/mid around 9 to 12 o' clock.
The analog delay can not come close to my Ibanez AD9 ! POD sounds shallow ??!!
There are no presets in POD for steel - you have to make them yourself.

I'm considering selling mine and trying the digitek.
I went to their site and they have alot of demos to listen to.
Check it out before spending alot of money on the POD.

In all I'm not totally happy with the POD so take your time to be sure if you'll like it.
Try to borrow someones if your serious before buying.

Good Luck
