I'm looking a cheap way to build some transducer pickups. Something to stick on a glass or a can. This is for a different sort of music project. I have made them before with little speakers out of broken clock radios. I want something a bit more reliable this time though.

Bob,I've done this before!Radio Shack door buzzers,I think that they're about three bucks a piece,Break the plastic off of them and you will be left with a thin metal disc with two wires coming from it,solder two longer wires to those it doesn't matter which side,To make them stronger I used to put a drop of silicone on the soldering joint.I put one on a glass of water once and plugged it into my Twin Reverb amp and hit it with a spoon,just about went thru the roof.Stu

| Yup, those RS discs are piezo buzzers, same basic idea as under-saddle & stick-on piezo puckups for acoustic guitars. |

Piezo beeper elements--
I have tried carefully cutting them into little squares with tin snips.
If you can solder wires to them without melting the metal AND if you can make sure that none of the metal covering shorts from front to back,
you can get a lot of pickups out of one element.
The elements are sometimes available very cheaply at electronics surplus stores.
