Here's a cool little recording of Rag Mop, by Jesse James and All The Boys, featuring Joaquin. This is a pretty raw recording, and Joaquino's not at his absolute best, but he lays down a few interesting triplet figures in an interesting lick. His sound is raw, as well. Don't have any info on this recording, but it came courtesy of my buddy Goofus.

Mike, I'm pretty sure that's NOT Joaquin but a Texas steeler whose name escapes me. He was the author of Rag Mop. There was an article on him in Jesse Morris' Western Swing Journal about him and I have it buried somewhere in my files so I can't get a quick and definitive answer.

That's interesting--that would explain why it just doesn't quite stand up with Joaquin's best. Anyway, I'll post up Swinging On The Steel, aka Joaquin Special, by the same group when I get a chance.

Thanks. Any other opinions on this?

That could very well be Jimmie Grabowske.

I'd never heard of Grabowske prior to this. Thanks for the info.

Deacon Anderson? http://www.seattlewesternswingmusicsociety.com/James%20Deacon%20Anderson.htm

I didn't read the whole thing but he is credited with Rag Mop. One of the first 45 rpm records I got back in the 60's was a knock off called "Rat Fink" by Chicago dj Dick Biondi.
