I'm using a Stewart PA-100 [mounted in an open back 115 cabinet] and last night it would start popping and cracking so I turned the unit off and changed volume pedals out and it worked fine for a while then, It started again so I turned the power amp off and changed out cords and it worked fine for about 40 minutes then , I found a fan and positioned it to blow inside the cabinet and turned the unit off about 10 minutes while I took a break and no problems till the end of the night and it popped a few times and the volume decreased again. I'm running the amp full power too so my question is. Will a small fan mounted inside the cabinet along with turning down the power cure my problem?
It's very distracting to try to play anything while that's going on. Thanks for your time.

Mounting a small fan can't hurt, but you really shouldn't have to do that. It obviously needs some service.
Give them a call and maybe you can send it to them to be checked out. |

Mike,
you may need a bigger amp.

Brad,
A bigger amp will not fit in that cabinet. The Stewart is 180 watts in the bridge mode so I know it has plenty of power.
I'm going to make sure that it's the power amp tonight by running my rack in to the back of a Nashville 112. I just replaced the tubes and 1 filter cap in my pre amp but it may be there. I'll know tonight.
Going by some horror stories I've heard about Stewart's service I may go back to a session 400. I don't have the time or resources for this. _________________ Zumsteel steel guitars, Telonics and Peavey amplifiers, GHS strings. |

A year or so ago, I had a Stewart Pa200 that one channel quit working on. Stewart was quick to answer my emails, and turned the amp around in about 3 weeks. I've tried to email them a couple of times since with questions, and got no response, so I don't know what their situation is now. _________________ Darvin Willhoite

Just got in from a gig where I used my rig in the back of a Nashville 112 and I had the same thing happen again. So, I bypassed the rack pre amp and went straight into the 112 and it did it again. Then I bypassed the only other thing I haven't tried and it quit. So, this can be closed, I've found the culprit. _________________ Zumsteel steel guitars, Telonics and Peavey amplifiers, GHS strings. |

It was his Black Box. I'm taking a look at it this week. I suspect the plate resistor or the tube. Easily fixed.

I'm sure that Mike can rest assured he will be well taken care of. Brad's commitment to customer service and satisfaction is second to none. |

Did anyone notice that Mike as too much of a nice guy to say the Black box was giving problems and that Brad is such a nice guy for telling us the cause of the problem.
Both guys are "Top of the Forum"
This has nothing to do with the fact that I have met and chatted with both these Gents and found out for Myself they are both "Salt of the Earth"
Best regards

Billy, yep I did notice! And they are indeed top drawer folks. I wouldn't have asked about the problem, except I have the same Stewart power amp mounted in a cabinet with a 15" speaker, and wanted to learn what may be causing the problem. I hope that if I ever do have a problem with that setup, it can be handled as quick and easy as Mike's will be. |
