New CD is just out with a live "single" cut from Bobby Ingano from the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua, Maui. He plays "Hula Blues" on steel and I'm doing the rhythm on acoustic guitar.
Paul Konwiser is the producer of the CD and George Kahumoku Jr. is the host of the program which is conducted at the Ritz every Wednesdays. Paul's last two slack key CD's swept the Grammy's (Hawaiian category)in the past two years.
What is mainly a slack key event in Maui, we're very happy that the Hawaiian Steel Guitar has been added occasionally into their program.
Lots of big name players in this CD:
Led Kaapana
George Kahumoku Jr.
Cyril Pahinui
Martin Pahinui
Dennis Kamakahi
Keoki Kahumoku
Daniel Ho
Ozzie Kotani
Richard Ho'opi'i
Bobby Ingano
Da Ukulele Boyz
Here's a link of the review in this morning's Honolulu Advertiser.

Hey, Derrick I couldn't find it on Mele.com. Too new? I should be over in Honolulu over Thanksgiving. Will you be playing at Fort Street? |

Hi Kris,
Yes, the CD is new. Usually, it should be available at outlets by the time the news editors do a review.
I've found a source here:

Yes, we're still at the mall on Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:00 - 1:30. Thanksgiving falls on a Thursday so we may cancel for just that one day but will be back on Tuesday.
When are you coming to Hawaii? |

Thanks, Derrick. I'll be flying in on Thanksgiving Day and leaving on the following Tuesday. So I guess I'll miss you this time around. The last time I was there with my Uke instructor, Bum Palabrica and that generator kept dying and we were running looking for oil. Does someone play at the Marriot on Friday nights? Or is it at the Halekulani? |

Hi Kris,
Halekulani is the best bet for steel guitar as they still enforce the policy of having a steel player with every group. The Moana no longer does, and fills in with whatever musicians they can grab.
The Hawaiian groups only play at the Waikiki Marriot on Thursdays (Alan Akaka) with Genoa Keawe, and on Sundays with Martin Pahinui w/ Bobby Ingano (if he's not tired from work)
Stop by the Moana Hotel Beach Bar when you have a chance after 5:00 p.m. (except Thursday and Saturday) Maybe I can set something up for the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Aloha! |
