I canceled Saluda to play a Marine party tonite at Trenton Fl., Mad Italian Res. The Youngest Marine retired is cutting the cake with a sabour and serving it to the oldest retired Marine, I feel real proud to be playing for them.

Ernie, I'm sorry you will miss the Saluda show and jam, it's a great time.

You couldn't miss it for a much better reason. The Marines at the ceremony your playing at will surely appreciate you playing and supporting them. I'm glad you will be a part of their birthday celebration.

The Marine Corps birthday ball, celebration and its conduct is a time honored tradition in the Marine Corps, with the cutting of the cake a special part of that celebration. Watching the cake cut with an Officers or Staff Non Commissioned Officers sword, the first piece going to the Oldest Marines served by the Youngest Marine in attendance is special and again steeped in tradition.

Thank you for your support of our Marine Brothers. My God bless them and every service member past and present and you for your support.

For the record, how old was the oldest retired Marine ? I imagine he was probably a WW2 veteran.

Very Happy
A big special Semper Fi to you, Ernest. Thank you for your support and I know it was appreciated by all.
The Marine Corps birthday is always a very special day at all the bases in the world.
In fact, we always ate better on the birthday than we did at Thanksgiving or Christmas. There was No horse c--k, No SOS and No creamed f-------s at that dinner.
There was chicken, beef, pork, turkey, cranberries and everything that went with it.
But always on Sunday or Holiday nites,--the HC or the SOS or the CF were back on the menu.
Ernest,--do it again next year if you get a chance. I know it was enjoyed.
Thank you

We played at a festival out at the 29 Palms Marine base, a couple years back. It was a very sobering experience. Afterward I'm out drinking a beer, in the moonlight, and talking to some of these guys and they're too young to have a beer.

I was busy all night we played till 11:00 and got home at 1:00am.
Those dress Uniforms are sure pretty, quite impressive. There were about 50.
They were served from a long table full of food, I went to the bath room the omly time I was up all night, and the kitchen force passed me with the food, boy they sure eat well, about 10 containers full of great looking fare.
Several of them came over to the band stand and talked to us.
