I know Jerry Byrd championed the 22 and a half inch short scale but after reading John Ely's comments in Andy Volk's Lap Steel book I wondered if heavy hitters like Herb Remington , Vance Terry , J. Murphy also played the short scale or opted for longer ones like 23.5 or 24.25 inch. I've seen Scotty play a short scale fry pan but I usually see him play one that looks longer at the annual benefits. I don't know what Cindy Cashdollar uses either. Anyone know about this ?

Kevin, I think that the short scale would be the choice of the Hawaiian Stylist and "The Heavy Hitters" you refer to would be of the 'western swing' ilk, who on the whole, seem to prefer the longer 24"-25" scale length. (I think)
