Most, but not all. My 1983 PP came with Sperzels from the factory. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

Thanks Herb! My 76 has the Grover replacements and I would like to put Klusons back on if that is what it came with. |

Are the Grover replacements the same size as the Klusons as far as the holes in the keyhead? Or was the keyhead drilled out for the Grovers? If so, you may not be able to refit the guitar with Klusons. |

John, I don't know as I did not put them on. It seems a couple are loose when I change strings so I need to check that for sure. |

John,
I once refitted an Emmons S10 with Klusons that was retro-fitted with the large Grovers. The Keyhead had been drilled out but I fitted it with some Boston brand bronze bushings. It did the trick just fine! _________________ Best regards,

The new Klusons look almost like the originals however, the shafts are .015 smaller in diameter, resulting in a very sloppy fit. They are probably made overseas to metric dimensions. I ordered a full set, couldn't use them and had to go with a Gotoh copy which has a shaft diameter of .249 which seems to work OK. |

Thanks Lynn. I think I will get a couple of the Klusons (copys I think) that Emmons sells and see if they fit versus buying 2 complete sets. Where do you buy boston bronze bushings? |

Lynn,
Good idea! I'm a Shobud guy and don't know beans about Emmons' guitars. But Ricky and I had a conversation about putting Grover "Butterbean" tuners on a newer Shobud. I realized you couldn't do it because the Rotomatics required such a humongus hole. And you, my friend, have figured out how to do it. And the bushings won't show on the inside, because Shobuds are painted black on the inside edge of the keyhead. Big thanks! And I'll tell Ricky. |

Ive also had some experience with this...
Re-size bushings wont show on an Emmons as their keyheads were usually painted black on the inside as well. A few Ive seen were bare casting but thats rare and they can still be painted to hide the work.
The Gotoh's are the only way to go for replacements, imho., per the fit issue. If you use bushings to re-size the larger holes I would have them made out of round aluminium stock as Emmons key heads are made of cast aluminium. Ive had very good luck with this procedure on a number of occassions. Bushings can be made fairly easily by anyone with a lathe or screw machine.
Bobbe Seymour has a nice new lathe... if you talk nice to him he might accomodate you, but Im speaking out of school here |
