I didn't want to muddy up the seller's listing regarding this. The magnum for sale in the forum looks like it has a Carter Fret Board. Does carter make this guitar? Or did someone replace the original fretboard?

Brian, Magnum is Carter's brand of pedal steel that's offered through retailers (as opposed to the traditional Carter brand which I believe is only available through the factory).

That blue Magnum SD-10 is the deal of the week on the Forum!

Thanks for the reply. I have seen both Carter's Starter and the Magnum for sale on Guitar Center. Now it makes sense that they are one in the same!

Brian, the Magnum is a very fine Pro guitar and the Carter Starter is a fine "starter" or student guitar. Both are built by Carter and sold thru a dealer network such as myself and many other dealers.

Thanks Jerry> I recognized the fret board as being a Carter fretboard, but did not realize they were both made by the same manufacturer.

I have seen old emmons on here with an MSA fret board, ect. So I wasn't sure.

Emmons is a 24.25" scale, MSA is 24" scale, if you saw these brands mixed, you saw a guitar that won't be played in tune!

The info you recd. from Jerry Roller and the other guys here is totally correct. I like the Magnum better, (but then, I'm a dealer! Smile )

Best wishes, you are in the world of steel guitar now, (hang on and enjoy the ride) Very Happy

Ok, maybe it wasn't emmons/msa.

It was a brand of guitar but it definitely had a different brand's fretboard on it.

Thanks for the correction and the explanation Bobbe.

Which guitar has the large oblong shapes on it? that was the fretboard, but it was on a different guitar. I could have swore it was an emmons with a fretboard that had oblong thingys on it.

It probably was, this fretboard you describe with the oblongs is possibly one I designed for the Emmons guitar, and was later used by "the Bethel Guitar", . My old friend Dick Miller asked if he could use these boards on his guitar, I said yes.

However, this fret board was also a 24.25" scale,

The Sho-Bud Fretboards work perfectly on the MSA, and several other guitars.

Brian, as a matter of fact, my Emmons has the oblong fretboards on it, and has for many years, was it my old P-P Emmons you saw?

Your buddy,
Bobbe

It may have been Bobbe. Considering I have never seen a steel guitar before a few months agao, My brain has been soaking up all this knowledge contained in here. It soaks it like a sponge. Sometimes I think I am taking it all in too fast and getting this mixed with that.

The most logical explanation would be that what I saw would be your design on an emmons. That would make sense.

Thanks for clarification on it.

I love looking at the fret board designs. It is one of my favorite things about the pedal steel.

Bob: It's probrobly a good thing for me, and a bad thing for my marriage!
