Wally Pfeifer of the HSGA Joliet Convention committee just sent me this video link:
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=local&id=4721863

Apparently 7-8 hotels in the SW Chicago area including Joliet have been involved in selling customer's credit card numbers. Employees of these hotels were arrested today in a major sweep by law enforcement officials.

If you used your credit card at the Holiday Inn in Joliet during the convention I would suggest you call your card holder immediately and check for any suspicious activity since the convention.

I called my card company this evening and all was well - no questionable or unexplained transactions since October 16th. I had them issue me a new card anyway.

Sorry to have to report this.

I just checked my card charges, and found nothing unusual. Maybe they don't target groups as opposed to individuals.
Changing the card may be a good idea.

I checked my credit card and there was no fradulent activity.

To guard against mischief in the future, I as well, changed by credit card number.

The news article in Gerald's post is informative about credit card schemes, so I would urge all to read it.

Aloha,
Don

I had a hotel employee get my number, got me for $1600 before it was stopped. Fortunately the bank took care of me, but for a month I was borrowing a lot of dough just to keep food on the table. These guys are pretty slick, but the rule of thumb is to make sure that you see eveything that is done with your card- in my case it was taken behind a door for a minute which should have set off alarms. When it was brought back to the counter, he processed the transaction. There was no reason for the card to be taken out of my sight; now I am firm that my card must be procseed in front of me, and if they refuse I will call the PD, no messing around.

What about restaurants?

You always give your card to the waitress and she disappears with it for five minutes.

Well, i just changed my card number, because the stolen numbers may be around for months before someone tries to use them.
