Why does it have a '50's Tweed case?
Wouldn't a '66 have the black tolex case? |

That's right Alvin. Either the case is non-original or the guitar is not a 1966. Either way, the guitar is super clean. The seller says the guitar is marked 12-66 under the tuners. I thought Fender had stopped hand writing the dates by 1966? The pot codes would be the best way to pin down the date.

According to the Gruhn guide, the "PAT PEND" tuner trays were only used until '62...

Rick's correct.
You can still search eBay for
Item number: 190043333273 to see it.
I know folk will post that's way too high, but I suspect the buyer make a BIG profit when he sells in a few years. |

Boys and girls, hang on to your beloved steel guitars if you can, 'cause there won't be many of these old gems left to play once they're all hoarded up by investors. |

The more I look at the one listed as a "1966", the more it looks like a 1958.
The case, the knobs, the switch tip, finish color, and tuners all look late '50s to me.
Does anyone else think the same of it? |

It look exactly like my '59, except for the case. The legs are stored different, along-side instead of on top.
