How many Forumites have listened to Steve playing
"Night Life" on My Space.com? It's his own style and it sounds quite unique. Cool

Which brand of psg does Steve play?
It sounds real good.

WOW; I am blown away... totally. I don't know whether I should go break out my pedal steel and woodshed until I can emulate a small fraction of this great rendition. OR just resign myself to always be a mediocre Pedal Steel player! Whoa!

I can always comfort myself when other musicians think I play "great," but I know better! When I listen to someone play like this, I am always a bit depressed. What intonation! Clean fast single notes and runs, and those lush chords, and trailing bends unexpected transitions, and a sweet low note stab, from time to time!

Does anyone know what tuning he uses? Can he play this live? Or was it overdubbed and pieced together?

Oh Well Dom

Steve keeps his tuning secret so nobody will be able to play like him.

Actually it's stored at Area 51 with his spaceship cuz that guy isn't from this planet.

Am I missing something? I asked an honest question.
What tuning was used... I don't seem to hear those intervals and chords on my E9th neck. Is it perhaps a C6th or B6th tuning? or even a Universal?

I am also looking for excuses to buy another instrument!

My apologies, Dom. I often assume that all posters have at least a rudimentary knowledge of tunings and their sounds. The song "Night Life" is standard fare for C6th pedal players (and those of other 6th pedal tunings). Of course, that begs the question "What are you using now, and how accomplished are you on that tuning?" I wouldn't advise tackling the C6th unless you're fairly well along on E9th, and have mastered all the basics of playing.

I play E9th primarily. I used to have a double neck, But I rarely used the C6th neck, so I sold it. I Have an LDG model Shobud that I love. Very Happy

I am also an accomplished player on A6 and C6th lap steel. But That is far different than what I hear being used on the C6th tuning with Pedals. Shocked

I was afraid of this, But it is also exciting at the same time. I need to consider another pedal steel for C6th or a double neck with both tunings!!!

My wife is not going to understand*** Whoa! I have so many instruments already! Muttering

Well, at first I thought that this statement was a little condecending.

Until I realized that Dom has been a forum member longer than Donny!

This is a great CD, one of my very favorites, with an intro by Buddy Emmons. I also recommend the CD called 'The Way We Wanted It' that he made with great guitarist/singer Randy Corner.

Yes;
I have been a forum member for a long time.
But I have some major gaps in my steel guitar knowledge. I need to explain... I took lessons on Hawaiian guitar from 1961-1966. Those were the only music lessons. I ever took. I played lapsteel until 1971 when I bought an old Fender 1000 that some one had modified with bike brake cables and wooden knee levers. I sold that in 1977 and bought my Shobud LDG.
So I basicaly left behind all the C6th sounding stuff. Since mainstream Country had also embraced E9 at that time.
Then I also began playing mostly standard guitar, songwriting and recording, and leading Worship at church.

Finally I re-discovered the rich lush chords of the sixth tunings when I bought a used lap steel. Around 2000.
So I have large time spans where musical styles came and went and I missed out...

So I plead ignorance, but I am trying to catch up now.

Sincerely;
Dom Franco Very Happy
