My Shobud has some scratches near the nut. The black fretboard and maple underneath make the scratches very visible. There are no marks anywhere else.

I'm mildly tempted to touch them up. Seems to be the general opinion on this site that this is a bad idea.
The finish seems to be very thin. What is the finish? Is it best to leave it alone?

BTW the wood it's made of is "birds eye maple" (that I see underneath). Not sure why anyone would hide wood like that.

Hey Alan,
I was just looking at the pictures on your other thread and your guitar looks great to me! I'd just leave it as is...

A long time ago Ricky Davis posted his recipe for cleaning up an old Sho Bud. Try this before you start anything serious... It will make your guitar shine!!

Jon (Ricky's quote below)

[/quote]Well what we are doing is bringing the old lacquer to surface and then polishing it.
First you clean with soap and water and dry.
Then I use a hardwood floor paste finishing wax from MinWax. And wax on wax off….and that will bring the lacquer up to surface. Then I use my secret Qualarenu from “Behlen” and it has amalgamation in it; that Rejuvenates old cracked; crazed; checked lacquer and brings the lines in (then I may wax again). Then I use Old English Lemon Oil to Moisturize the lacquer as it gets dry though the years; wipe on, let sit 1 hour, wipe off. Then I use Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax polish; to give it the silky smooth polished finish.
There ya go…..the whole recipe.
