Recently, the city of St. Catharines dedicated a large pavilion in a downtown park to Walter Ostanek, Canada's Polka King. A songfest was held to honour Walter. A multitude of musicians were there to pay tribute including my grandson Francesco and myself. A couple of pictures from the local papers are below. Francesco really loves to play the Dobro and the lap steel.

Wow, that's great to see a 12 year old featured like that! You must be very proud of him, and with good reason. Thanks for sharing, and good luck to you both! _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Thanks Brad, yeah he's not only becoming a good player, he's a good natured boy. Everybody loves him in the audiences. What gets me is that he plays with such competence. We play a lot a open mikes, and this older man was ready to start when Francesco said, "Excuse me sir but your guitar is out of tune", to which the man looked surprised, and Francesco said, "Yes sir, the 3rd string"!!!! The guy gave him the 'this-kid-knows-his-stuff' look.

Hey George...Perhaps you might have a You Tube or even a digital sound trac of your grandson...I'm sure we'd all be very interested in hearing him play. It's sure nice to see a young feller like him taking up an instrument which other kids have probably never heard. Most kids of his age are playing 3 chord rock stuff. Playing the kind of music he enjoys will certainly have a positive effect on his future. CONGRATULATIONS, my friend ! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Thanks guys for the kind comments. Yes, he plays rhythm guitar quite well and if I didn't say the steel, he plays 6 string lap steel niftyily also. He also is dabbling now in electric guitar as he watches some guys pick out tunes. While he won't sing in public, he sings here and home, but he's embarassed as his voice is changing and he's a soprano and alto all-in-one, if you know what I mean. The best thing about it all, is he loves to play.

I'm glad he has you around to encourage and guide him. I look forward to seeing him on stage some day myself! _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel
