John -
Although Mickey Newbury "wrote" An American Trilogy, it is really nothing more than the conjunction of three very well known tunes: Dixie, All My Trials Lord and Battle Hymn of The Republic. All My Trials Lord is usually highly abbreviated.
No doubt you know that it has been recorded by many including Elvis, Jeannie Seely etc., etc..
Might be easier to get the tab for all three tunes and then just splice them together using your favorite recording as a guide for bridging them. The only hassle might be that they would be in different keys and then you'd have to work out a modulation sequence from key to key or transpose them to a common key.
Hope this helps you out and I haven't told you anything that you already know.
Respectfully,
Richard |

that is true...but i figured learning all three in 1 was easier than learning 3 for 1.
if anyone has tab for any of those three songs though, let me know.
the 4th is coming up quick
thanks

...is that, E9 for pedal steel, or can it be used for lap steel as well?
I caught Carl Perkins in an opening slot for The Dudds in Waikiki years ago, and he did American Trilogy towards the end of his no-frills but non-the-less great show, and did it just like Elvis. Quite a dramatic way to close out a spectacular performance. |

Ron,
My tab is written strictly for pedal steel.
It would not work on a lap guitar.
Billy,
Your tab will be in the mail today.
Richard,
I got your e-mail and will also send you a copy.
Take care,
Erv |
