I'm curious if anyone has tried Emmons single coils pickups in an EMCI (or metal-frame MCI) guitar, and if you would please share your impression of this guitar/pickup combination. I have an EMCI with 705's, and it sounds really good, but I prefer the sound of my Emmons. I'm wondering if single coils will get the EMCI even closer to the sound of an Emmons. I know it will never sound exactly like an Emmons, but maybe Emmons single coils have more of the Emmons edge than 705's and will add an Emmons character to the tone?

Thank you,
Cliff

I believe that the George L E66 pickup (which is a humbucker) was developed by George Lewis and Buddy Emmons on an EMCI to closely approximate the sound of the '66 Emmons. It is up to your ears to judge just how close they came.

When I had an EMCI I put a George L E66 pickup in it and it sounded great. I big improvement on the Barcus Berry pickup that it came with.

I believe that the E-66 was designed during the time period that Buddy was playing an MCI.

Yeah I replaced the Barcus Berrys on mine with a E66 on C6th and a 10-1 on E9th ...it sounded really great with that combo for me.

One of the nicest tones ever on record is Buddy playing his EMCI on the Christmas album. I believe that had E-66's on it.

I have an EMCI which I put E-66 pickups on. I realize they were developed to emulate the '66 Emmons. It sounds ok until compared to an original '66 Emmons, which would eat it for lunch.
Just my humble opinion.
