I just watched the rebroadcast of the opry featuring the time jumpers. Kelly Pickler, Vince and the Time Jumpers all sang on key, WOW what a treat. When Dawn Sears sang Sweet Memories they panned around the auduience and people were captivated, even the young.

Bill,
I have never heard a better rendition of Sweet Memories than the way Dawn does it. Talk about a song that fits your voice, this song was made for her to sing!
I was fortunate enonugh to catch an East Tennessee Public Broadcast of the program from which the video that featured Papa John in it as Dawn sang that song.
The perfect country female singer and the perfect steeler. What a combo. I can identify with the audence at the COO, I was captivated myself.
Papa John will be missed by many in many ways.

| The first time I ever heard "Sweet Memories" was on one of John Hugheys CD's. I said to myself, that is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard played on steel guitar. I made it a priorty to learn the song. I didn't realize the song had words. Every time I'm playing in my mom's presence ( she's 83 ) she makes me play "Sweet Memories" and "Look At Us". These are her two favorite tunes. I saw the show on TV, and it was the first time I've ever heard or seen Dawn sing. "WOW", what a voice, and as the Bible says; "she was fair to look upon". Does anyone know who wrote the song, and who was the first to record it, and approximately when it was written and recorded? |

| Scott, I couldn't say who wrote it or first recorded it, but I did read that Willie Nelson had it out on record in 1968. I've heard versions by Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Ricky Van Shelton, Brenda Lee, etc... |

| Hey Lem,thanks for the info. I watched the Time Jumpers on youtube. Boy,that girl can sing, and wasn't John Hughey great. My wife has informed me that we will be going to hear them sing when we get moved there in June. I was in Nashville the week John passed away. My father-in-law and I went to here Mike Siler and John at the Legends Corner. During the break, I asked Mike if John could play "LOOK AT US" and Mike agreed, and sang the song, and then let John play the song. Mike sang great, and John was great as usual. Five days later I called Johns house, to ask him what time they would be playing at the Station Inn, and a family member answered the phone and informed me that John had passed away. I was sick and shed many tears that day, as John was my hero on the steel guitar. I felt fortunate to hear John play "Look At Us" one last time. I still miss hearing him play, as I'm sure many do. |

"Sweet Memories" is one of my all-time favorites too. I love Dawn's vocal rendition and John's steel guitar version.

According to a bio I read on Mickey he wrote "Sweet Memories" in 1968 and Andy Williams had the 1st hit with it in the same year.

Dawn Sears? As an old buddy of mine once said. "I'm in love again and this time it's for real!" She is absolutely incredible! I don't ever recall having a "favorite singer". I've finally found one!
