I have a George L with string marks. What is the best way to remove them? Would something like simichrome work?

I would recommend a rubbing compound followed up with a polishing compound. You can obtain these from an auto parts store.

try a White Pearl eraser.

Meguirs 37 hand buffing compound. super fine for plastics. actually makes a balck tele pickguard TOO shiny!!!
