Help with Cubase LE

I bought a Lexicon Alpha Interface with Cubase LE program on eBay. The seller had used it on one project. I received it and tried to install it and it is necessary to put the Cubase LE serial number in the installation to proceed. The number is supposed to be on the CD jacket but it was a plain jacket. Does anyone have any idea how I can use it? I have emailed the seller but heard nothing and I suspect he no longer has the jacket. I am new to trying to record and am very frustrated.

as you already know, you need that S/N from the jacket. I have a copy that came with a Tascam USB Interface. If you are seriously considering a functional midi studio you really need a more robust version of Cubase or another software package. The LE version is FREE with many hardware items and although it is functional it is very limited. My opinion is also that it is not very intuitive but that may be related to it being the LE version, not sure. I don't like the editing ,erasing, copying, pasting format, it just appears goofy compared to other software that I have worked with and seen.

The 4 channel USB Interface works great though...

I would send the EBAY guy a few more notes and maybe even leave some appropriate feedback regarding the S/N...maybe open a dispute thru EBAY, that may get his attention .

being an analog dinosaur and digitally recording I understand your frustration. I started with CubaseLE that was inside Lexicon Lambda. it was a fine entry level recording platform. I have since upgraded to Cubase Essential 4. the upgrade was very affordable, because I already had LE.
you could try contacting the Cubase.net forum. I found a lot of friendly help there.

I also have Lexicon Lambda that came with Cubase LE4.

When I changed PCs I had nothing but problems with Cubase's ID and registration baloney just to get the damn thing working. They put you through a grinder to make sure you are who you say you are, just for some dumb software program. Who cares? Give me a break.

It's a confusing program. You have to keep switching ASIO elements for recording and playback, manually, to hear anything; just one example.

Once again, I got taken; and I blame myself, too, for not being very PC recording savvy. But it's not that user of a friendly program. Actually, it just sits there, now, as does BIAB.

For my little brain, it just requires too much studying; and trying this/trying that - to get even close to making some kind of recording.

It certainly ain't like the old days, where you put a mic in front of you, turned on the taperecorder, and went to town.

I just don't have any patience, I guess.

Jerry, if you don't get any answer from the ebay seller why not contact www.cubase.com and tell them of your problem? Seeing that Cubase LE is a free app anyway they might just give you a SN to use hoping that their goodwill will entice you when upgrading and trust me you will want to upgrade if you get serious because the lE package is just enough to make you want more :-0 It's at least worth a try.

I totally agree with what RANDY REEVES said. I went through all of the quirks with Cubase LE and just wound up being frustrated. You may be better off without it (saved from the headaches). However, Cubase Essentials 4 is a much friendlier animal,and (as recording programs go) isn't terribly expensive. Currently the "street" price is about $150.oo, and is well worth it. The only real downside is that the registration process can be extremely inconvenient and confusing; and,of course,then there's the "Dongle" debacle.

I got Cubase LE with my Alesis io26, 8 channel Firewire interface unit. I wanted something more and was considering Pro Tools until I was told by the consultant at Sweetwater that "he would like to sell me Pro Tools but the Alesis io26 was not compatible". I then checked the Sonar site and found out that the Cubase LE qualified for a "competitive upgrade" to Sonar 7 for about $150 (for the Studio Edition). I don't remember if I had to give them my Cubase LE serial number but any Cubase LE serial number, if it's needed, will make them happy for ordering and the Sonar 7 installation does not check for other programs when installing.

upgrading from the freebie Cubase LE is a good way to go. my upgrade to Cubase Essential 4 was only 90 dollars. of course there was a 'key' charge. not much. it is for that dongle key.
the install, like anything digital, for me was tricky and time consuming. but i am glad I did, because everything has been easier and the quality has gone up.
Cubase LE is a fantastic way to get started. I would recommend sticking with it if one is antsy about spending more money.
Cubase LE is simple and it works.

also, I have a dvd tutorial now. plain and simple now.
I will lend this out.

Hello Jerry, I just purchased a Tascam US1641 Interface and it came with LE4. I am studying the tutorial I found on line and I purchased the DeMystifing Cubase LE CD. Haven't done anything other than load it all to the computer and hook it all up. I can hardly wait to try it out. The tutorial and DVD make it all seem pretty easy.

Randy, where did you get the upgrade for $90. The Cubase web site looks like it is $499.

James. I called Steinberg. they make the program. if I remember, I found the upgrade on the Steinberg Cubase Forum. I have the link at home and will check back later.

The info is great we use Cubase SX with a lot of bells and whistles. But BIG Roger at Jimmy Swargert is were I learn or develope my ear and he's gives me same imfo. you can do IT.
