Need help Evans preamp distortion

Has anyone had problems with distortion in Evans preamp.Model ESPA
With phone vol on 7 and input vol on 1 ,most of the
distortion clears up.With phone vol on 1 and input
on 5,the distortion is severe.I get distortion out
of A and B all the time.Both inputs the same.
The output IC is a LM1877-9 2watt dual pwr amp .I measured the Jfet N channel and NPN and PNP Trans.
Any schematic or info would be helpful.
