How sensitive is the pickup to string location? I have a 6 string c6 tuning and the high G string is not directly over a pole piece. It has low volume & I'm trying to figure out why.

Not as sensitive as you might think (the old Anapegs had the magnets between the strings, instead of directly underneath). Finer strings have less output, so you may improve the situation by going to a heavier guage string, if possible. It could also be a bad string, or a weak magnet in the pickup, or a sympathetic vibration or resonance in the guitar helping to "cancel out" that note. (Does the situation improve if you tune that string up or down?) Also, try changing the pickup height, as that sometimes will make a difference.

A famous pickup maker who shall not be named here has said that it is actually better if the polepieces are between the strings -- but that dealing with questions from the consumer outweighs the benefit of building them that way. I'm sure I don't know one way or the other.
