Will it change the sound of the steel vs the stock rollers.

I would not think so unless they were brass.

Thoughts?

My 74'ish D-10 has gauged rollers and I don't notice any difference in tone. If you use different material, I am sure that there would be a difference.

Larry,
I added gauged rollers to my '84 LeGrande only because I had a buzz on strings 3 & 4. No change in sound that I could detect. My '96 LeGrande II had gauged rollers on it when I received it. Great Emmons tone with Wallace TT pickups on both guitars. I am now going to try Tonealigners For no particular reason, other than something new, I guess.

Jay there is a great reason to try Tonealigners. You can adjust the volume of each string and you can slightly fatten the smaller strings and harden the larger strings by adjusting the pole pieces.

Even my guitar player could tell the difference.

My thought is that since the magnet is smaller (top of a set screw vs a 1/4" or 3/16" on most other pickups) I hear better string separation. It is like pointing at something with the tip of a pencil vs the eraser end.
