I heard Ray Austin playing in Gainesville Texas last night with Tommy Alverson. He sounded great. I thought for sure he was playing a push pull with the tone that he had, but when I got closer I noticed that he was playing a Rains with a Nashville 400. Ray is a very good player with great tone and tasteful execution. I hope Ray doesn't mind me posting a picture and bragging about him.

Wow...nice to see Ray. I knew him back when he was living in LA. Sold him a Session 500.
I wonder if he's still got that old Edsel he used to drive around...
Thanks for posting that pic.

Yeah I hung out quite a bit with Ray when he lived in L.A. and we were deep sea fishing buddies as well as kindred souls - musically and otherwise.I hated to see him move back to Texas because he was a real free spirit on steel and had a style all his own on both necks. The only thing good about him moving away was that I got to move up the L.A.food chain a notch and ended up with a lot of his gigs.Plus, since he was this kind of fantastic but under-the-radar player,I could steal his licks with impunity once he left town and not too many knew where they really originated.I miss ya Ray.
