Picked this up in an article by Chuck Lettes on www.pedalsteelguitar.net. This is a modified C6 tuning with a high G and low F (GECAGF high to low) that makes a lot of sense with a 6 string non-peddle steel. Obviously still have your major on 321 (C open), the relative minor right next to that on 543 (Am open), and another major on 643 (F open). With the bar on the 6th string major root, the V chord is straight across on the 3 treble strings. I am finding this useful for chord work, as the I, IV and V are all within easy reach, and it's easy to grab minors as well. I'm kinda new here, and this is probably old stuff to most of you. Just curious whether anyone else uses it.

Thanks for posting the link, Gary. As you suggest, Don, this tuning gives me a variety of chords without having to jump all over the neck, plus I often don't have to resort to those pesky slants. Also, the string gauges for this tuning are light (.012-.030W), so the steel can really cut through the mix without increasing the instrument's volume. I love this tuning for my six string guitar. It works nicely for a variety of songs.

Thanks Chuck! I have been going through the Jerry Byrd course and playing with a lot of different tunings, like most steel guitar newbs probably do, but this is the tuning I seem to gravitate back to for all the reasons you mention. Really appreciate the little lesson on the link!
