The wife and I keep a CD in her car, and the same CD in my shop. We listen to this same CD over and over and over, until a better one comes along. The last CD that held this TOP spot was Price Porter's CD, with Overbey, Flores,Trevino, Domino etc. Check out Price Porter at www.priceporter.com Price Porter's CD just got kicked out of the top play position, by a CD called "Texas Style". This CD is by Ron Williams, Leona Williams' son. Leona's maiden name was Helton, and my wife Beverly calls Leona my kissin cousin. Maybe a touch of jealousy. Ron reminds me a lot of Keith Whitley. This CD is my kind of stuff, with steel guitar and fiddle doing most of the fill work. Leona's harmony will make you melt. Johnny Cox played some of the best steel guitar I have heard anywhere any place.
By the way, Johnny, that little "jerk" think you did on PLAYBOY curled the hair on the back of my neck. BOY was that great. By the way, Playboy was written by the same guy who wrote Buckaroo and many more #1 hits--Bob Morris. I used to play steel for Bob Morris. Bob lived in Hardy, Arkansas. Johnny, every song you played, everything you did on this CD was more than excellent, it was wonderful. Beverly and I listen to the CD many times every day. I really like the line in song #12, about his X, out getting wet, and at least he doesn't think it is his fault. I saw on Ron's web site where it said, "This is the CD they wouldn't let me cut in Nashville". Here is what I think of that--Those in Nashville that wouldn't let Ron cut it there are probably bed wetting, cry baby, tree hugging, dry hide, Communists. My advise to them is GET REAL. Sometimes places like Nashville, Las Vegas, and Branson can be very depressing for a musician looking for work. I lived in Branson for 22 years and I have seen it burn up hundreds of good musicians. I recently heard of one musician in Branson who lost his job, went home, locked the doors and windows, and turned on the gas and killed himself. Johnny, glad to hear you have got better on steel, last time I heard you Joan was out picking you. Ha! Your friends Keith and Beverly |
