I have Jimmy Hawton's CD "Blue Coral." There is a picture of Jimmy with his guitar on the cover of the CD. His beautiful Quad 8 guitar w/gold colored hardware is a deluxe style steel guitar.
This guitar does not look familiar to me.
Does anyone know what brand of guitar this is?

Roger, Jimmy made that guitar himself a few years ago. |

As I recall, Jimmy teamed with Bill Sevesi in NZ on this album...(?) I have it somewhere in this mess and it's a nice cd.
Jimmy lives in Napa, CA and has been playing steel for well over 125 years (ha!)...nice guy to know.
P.S. Jeff...her name is Ruymar, not Luymar. Lorene lives in Vancouver, BC and was the mover and shaker in organizing the HSGA some 15 years ago. Both she and her husband Art are steel guitarists, (also play r/guitar), and have been influenced by JB in their playing style.[This message was edited by George Keoki Lake on 18 November 2001 at 06:44 PM.] [This message was edited by George Keoki Lake on 18 November 2001 at 06:45 PM.] |

Hi Jeff,
The CD is real nice. I purchased my used copy of "Blue Coral" in Honolulu last May, when I was attending The HSGA Convention. I don't know if the CD is still available.
There is a musical autobiography of Jimmy in the 2001 Jan-Feb-March issue of Aloha International's quarterly magazine.

For those of you who do not belong to the AIHSGC or HSGA, you owe it to yourselves to join both or either associations. Each has quarterly newsletters which contain a wealth of information plus tablature arrangements in every issue. The clubs are aimed primarily at the so-called "lap" player, (I prefer the original term, "Hawaiian Steel Guitarist" which does not conjure up thoughts about "lap dancing"...ha!), however pedal steel guitarists are also welcomed. The main criteria is a love for Hawaiian music and the preservation of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar. IHSGA: dvogel@usinternet.com
HSGA: hsga@lava.net Fee for each: $26.00US per year. |

Sorry for open the post again folks!
Today, I noticed that there's probably a mistake in the picture shown on page 138 in Lorene Ruymar' book.
I think this isn't the Jimmy Hawton quad. It looks a Carvin with the standard carvin pickups, fretboard, tunners' design ... ( see page 132 and compare this quad with the Carvin 6-string lap steel)
Maybe the quad on page 132 that reads like a Carvin quad is the Jimmy Hawton's quad or maybe I'm wrong.
regards

Well Loni, I really don't mind if you "resemble" that statement or at worst, even "residue" it, but please don't "regurgitate" it...ok ?
