I would like to find a good Fender, Gibson, Epiphone or Ibanez short scale bass.
Any suggestions for a easy playing bass for a guitar player appreciated. What about a Mexican, Japanese, etc Fender??
Will have a Bassfex ready soon with pedal board. Also have a few amps ready to go as well. |

I can't really help you Ken, but would like to say I have an old Framus 30" scale 335 type that I absolutely love. Guild, Epi, maybe Gretsch made similar instruments.
I have a friend who has an Ibanez slab body neck through short scale that is a fabulous playing and sounding axe for a short-armed guy like me.
I know that Squier by Fender markets a very affordable Bronco short scale solid body 4, but I've never heard or played one. Good Luck finding yours! |

Fender has an Asian re-issue of its Mustang bass-- 30" scale, fairly lightweight. Haven't played one, but you should be able to find it at Guitar Center. The originals sounded pretty good.
Couple of semi-hollow violin style Beatle bass copies, one is an actual Hofner (Icon Series B-Bass), the other is the Rogue VB-100. Both very light, and around 4 bills. Gotta be lots of reviews of these on Harmony Central. |

My wife has a Japanese-made Fender Mustang and it's a very well-made short-scale instrument. A keeper.
One of the alternatives that she looked at was Rondo - SX - Essex basses that are sold on e-bay. They have P-bass and Jazz-bass copies with 3/4 scales for $100 + change. Read about them on talkbass.com, and they sound like a good value for the $$$. |

Last night I was talking with an old friend about. He has an old Epihone that was a project, routed for a second (Jazz style) pickup. Looks like he is going to let me have it! |

Hiya Ken!
I had a Fender short scale for my wife, and she liked it, and it sounded good.
Then I found that Hamer makes a short scale, 2 pickup model, available with a flamed maple top, for $200 or less!
I bought her one and it is an AWESOME little axe.
(just in case your current deal doesn't go thru)

Ken, Guitar Center sells a Gretsch small scale bass for $249. They're shaped like a Les Paul, have a black finish and a pearl like pick guard. I bought one for my wife a couple of years ago as she's only 5'2" tall and just too small for a regular scale bass.
I'm 6'4" and get a bass gig once in a while. I had an old G&L bass that I sold and played her's on a couple of gigs and liked it so well that I bought another one for myself...They're a cool little bass...JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

I've been thinking about picking up one of those little Gretschs myself. They look pretty nice and are getting some really good reviews. |

I have a 75 Fender Musicmaster Bass. Single pickup, short scal, low action, and straight neck and very easy to play. I have no Idea what they sell for now. I got mine for $50.00 almost 20 yeas ago. About 15 years ago I saw one in a vintage shop for $400.00. Mine ain't for sale, but I would suggest this model for a young beginner, a woman, or any one with small hands. _________________ ShoBud Pro 1, 75 Tele, 85 Yamaha SA 2000, Fender Cybertwin, |

Jim, my ex wife has two of those Fender Musicmaster basses which are very nice little jewels. However, IMHO the Gretsch bass sounds a lot better. If you remove the pickup cover on the Fender, you'll see that they have six pole pieces so they're actually just guitar pickups which have the magnetic pole pieces covered........ Also, Squier makes a copy of the Musicmaster bass for under $200 and looks just like the old ones.........JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Maybe consider a Fender VI.
Short scale 6 string bass, all strings one octave lower than 6 string geetar. A guitar player will be right at home.
