With the knee that lowers strings 2 and 9, suppose you wanted to eliminate lowering string 9. Instead you wanted to raise or lower some other strings with that knee. What would you suggest using with the knee that lowers string 2.

Hi Keith,
I lower string 2 on RKR, and I also raise string 7 and lower string 9 on RKR. On RKL I raise string 1, raise string 2, and lower string 6. It's a good combo I think and it gives you both the string 6 lower and the string 7 raise.

Cliff, on my old guitars I raised strings 1 and 7 a half tone. On my new guitar I don't have this. I like the idea of RKR lowering string 2, raising string 7, and lowering string 9. I still can't see much use for lowering string 9, as it just gives a scale note. Then again I am not to smart.

I haven't had a 9th string lower on my guitar for quite a while. I lower the 6th string from G# to F# with the knee lever that lowers the 2nd string from D# to C# with a 1/2 stop for D.

I absolutely love the 7th string raise with half tone feel on the RKR...as long as the E lower is on another knee; as I use it in conjuction with that also.
If you don't see yourself using 9th string lower; than you won't use it. I'm a firm believer in; only have what you see/hear yourself using and understanding.

Sorry about jumping in here but to me it's the same thing as half pedaling your A pedal in E9th tuning and then pressing it all the way. With your Es lowered and in the B6th mode, the F# string is the same scale position as your 5th & 10th strings in E9th, so if you think of it like that you can see what it's doing. You can also use the lowered E strings the same way as you use strings three and six in E9 by letting off the knee lever (raising 3rd to 4th).......JH in Va.

Keith; Jerry is correct of course; but different voicing...as If you want the augmented note below the b7th tone this is the way.
Also use it as a resolve in the same position with 5th and b7th tones resolving to the 3rd and root tone; while that 7th string being a 9th tone; resolves to the 5th tone.
Also; use it as a resolve with 2nd string lowered that whole tone.
Also use it as the b5th tone in the b7/9 position 3 steps up from the no pedal root chord position.
And also use it for the b3rd note lick in no pedal root chord position for a rock-a-billy thingy...ha..
And; well there's more, but then I will give away all my secrets....>you can hear it used many many times on the new CD to come out by Miss Leslie called "Between the Whiskey and the Wine" to be released June 13th.

Hey that's Way Cool Cliff.
To me; knee levers and their changes of where they are; really just offer possibilities of note movements and chord structures for given fret positions within your playing.
I do like to have those options and use them; in the way that I play and the way I see/hear the neck.
Sure I can move the bar and or slant and pretty much play all I play with very minimal knee lever changes; and I do that when playing a non-pedal steel if I desire. But playing the pedal steel gives you the opportunity to move those notes within those chord positions. Again; if you can see it and hear it within the way that you play the pedal steel; then have any change you want.

I raise the 7th string F# to G on the lever that lowers the 2nd string D# to D. I have to be careful not to use them together, though, as they serve different functions. Usually the G note doesn't work in the positions where I use the D note.

I have a separate lever that lower both 2 and 9 to C#.
